BELMONT ABBEY WINS McAMIS MEMORIAL WITH RECORD 606

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Belmont Abbey women's golf team led wire-to-wire as the Crusaders carded a tournament record 606 to win the 2008 Agnes McAmis Memorial held this week at Link Hills Country Club. Belmont Abbey followed Monday's tournament record 299 with a final round 307 to post 606, nine shots better than the previous mark set by Central Arkansas in the 2005 event.

Shorter's Daniela Vargas also led wire-to-wire to capture medalist honors with a tournament record 69-70=139 (-5). Vargas held off a furious charge by Charlene Reid of Pfeiffer, who established a tournament record with her final round four-under par 68 to finish with 140 for second place.

Belmont Abbey's Carley Warrington secured a spot on the All-Tournament team, finishing third with 72-74=146, while Brittany Beltran of Pfeiffer tallied 71-77=148 to place fourth. Wingate's Ashley Denton rounded out the All-Tournament squad with 78-73=148.

Pfeiffer finished seven shots behind Belmont Abbey for runner-up honors with 613. Wingate placed third with 617, followed by Shorter (636), tournament host Tusculum (654), Anderson (655), Catawba (673), Queens (676), Limestone (681), Mars Hill (685), Lincoln Memorial (700), UNC Pembroke (711) and Spartanburg Methodist (715).

A quartet of players finished tied for sixth place at 153 including Christina Crovetti (UNC Pembroke), Liz Cortez (Belmont Abbey), Anna Lee Croom (Wingate) and Rita Kim (Belmont Abbey).

Tusculum's Mandy Hartsock led four players at 154 to tie for 10th, including her final round 73, the third lowest score on Tuesday. Joining Hartsock at 154 are Sophie Dembroski (Anderson), Kelsey Babos (Catawba) and Michele Low (Belmont Abbey).

TC's Mary Ann Vizcarrondo tied for 16th with 77-81=158, while rookie Emily Palenkas placed 35th with 84-86=170. Susanne Sisco shot 84-88=172 to tie for 38th, while Haley Johnson rounded out the team scoring with 98-94=192 (68th). Amber Ladner, playing as an individual competitor, tied for 28th place with 80-85=165, while Adriana Vizcarrondo tied for 38th with 88-84=172.

Tusculum returns to the links next week for the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship, to be held in Hickory, N.C.
