Pioneers open day one action at Music City Classic

SMYRNA, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's bowling team is in 27th place at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic, while is being held at the Smyrna Lanes and hosted by Vanderbilt University.

The Pioneers rolled a total pinfall of 4,201 in their five Baker matches. Tusculum went 1-4 on Friday including a pair of setbacks to nationally-ranked teams.

TU opened with a 903-745 loss to Belmont Abbey, but bounced back with an 898-723 victory over Spalding. The Pioneers next faced 17th-ranked Central Missouri as TU fell to the Jennies, 989-873. Tusculum dropped an 870-828 decision to No. 19 Lincoln Memorial before closing out the afternoon with a loss to Aurora, 893-857.

The 30-team field includes 14 nationally-ranked teams including eight of the top-10 programs in the country.

Host Vanderbilt, the No. 2 team in the nation went a perfect 5-0 and lead the tournament with a pinfall of 5,437. Louisiana Tech, the No. 12 team in the land, is second with 5,201 pins, while defending national champion and top-ranked McKendree is third with 5,146.

Tusculum will play five traditional games on Saturday, opening against No. 1 McKendree, followed by Valparaiso, No. 6 Youngstown State, No. 20 Wisconsin-Whitewater and No. 4 Arkansas State.
