TU bowlers 14th after second day of Mid-Winter Invitational

JONESBORO, Ark. --- The Tusculum University women's bowling team is in 14th place after Saturday action at the Mid-Winter Invitational.

The Pioneers have a two-day scored of 8,975 including Saturday's five-traditional game total of 4,439.

McKendree, the top-ranked team in the country and the defending NCAA national champions, leads the 17-team tournament with a total of 10,742 and lead by 41 pins over second place Louisiana Tech.

The Pioneers went 1-4 on the day as three of the four losses were by less than 50 pins. TU was edged by the narrowest of margins in the opener falling to Alabama A&M by a single pin (851-850).  Tusculum bounced back with a 943-860 win over Grambling State.

Tusculum was matched up against No. 1 McKendree as the Black and Orange held their own before falling by a score of 1005-956. The Pioneers lost the final two games of the day to Jackson State (944-850) and Alabama State (864-840).

TU's Allison Robbins finished 44th with her five-game series of 953 (192-211-190-188-172) while teammate Emilee Horton placed 45th with her five-game total of 948 (160-224-235-160-169). Alexa Tieto finished with 892 (199-169-184-160-180) for 56th, followed by Savannah Price's 826 (135-157-212-172-150) and Shayna Long's 820 (164-182-135-170-169).

Tusculum and Alabama State will meet on Sunday to open Championship Bracket play.
