Pioneers climb to 24th at Music City Classic

SMYRNA, Tenn. --- Tusculum University's Allison Robbins bowled a five traditional game total of 1,034 pins to finished 28th individually at the 2022 Music City Classic. The two-day, 33-team tournament is being held at Smyrna Lanes and hosted by Vanderbilt University.

The Pioneers went 3-2 on the day and followed yesterday's 4,345 total pinfall in its five Baker games with Saturday's 4,615 traditional pin total for a two-day score of 8,960 which moves TU up two spots to 24th.

Robbins bowled four 200-plus games including a 222 in her second game in Tusculum's 951-882 win over UAB. In the victory over the Blazers, Alexa Tieto bowled a 223 game, while Samantha England contributed 207.

Tusculum opened Saturday play with a narrow 954-951 loss to 16th-ranked Sacred Heart. After the win over UAB, TU faced 12th-ranked Maryville (Mo.) as the Saints won 1,046-816 over the Pioneers.

The Pioneers finished the day with back-to-back victories, knocking off Carthage College (992-944) and Spalding University (905-632).

Tieto finished 67th with 959 pins, while Erin Burkart totaled 955 including a 246 in her opening game against Sacred Heart. England totaled 892 pins for 95th place while Savannah Price accounted for 775 pins (125th).

Brooklyn Buchanan of Arkansas State is the individual champion with 1,229 pins for a 245.8 average. Also earning All-Tournament honors are Lauren Tomaszewski (North Carolina A&T), Brooke Roberts (Maryland Eastern Shore), Carlene Beyer (Stephen F. Austin) and Mabel Cummins (Vanderbilt).

McKendree holds the top spot in the tournament followed by Arkansas State, Vanderbilt, Stephen F. Austin, Maryland Eastern Shore, North Carolina A&T, Sam Houston State, Maryville (Mo.), Louisiana Tech and Nebraska to round out the top-10.

The tournament will conclude with Sunday's championship bracket as Tusculum will face Emmanuel in the opening game of the position round.
