GREENSBORO, N.C. --- The Tusculum University women's bowling team went 1-2 in its Best-of-7 bracket matches on Sunday to finish 10th at the 2022 Stallings Invitational. The three-day, 15-team tournament was held at the AMF All-Star Lanes and hosted by North Carolina A&T.
Tusculum opened the day against Florida A&M as the Rattlers jumped out to a 2-0 lead winning the first two games 166-134 and 175-153. The Pioneers answered with three straight wins (183-157, 209-132, 188-183 to take a 3-2 lead. FAMU edged out a 175-174 win in the sixth game to send it to the seventh. The seventh game was another thriller and ended in a tie at 169-169. In the tiebreaker, the Rattlers came away with a 95-80 decision to claim the victory.
The Pioneers bounced back against Texas Southern posting a 4-2 victory. TU won the first two game 182-176 and 182-156. TSU won the third 212-199, but the Pioneers claimed the fourth with a 168-143 decision to take a 3-1 lead. Texas Southern won the fifth game 179-167, but Tusculum closed out the win with a 200-179 decision to move onto the ninth place game and a rematch with Florida A&M.
FAMU won three of the first four games before Tusculum claimed the fifth with a 211-159 decision. But the Rattlers completed the victory with a 187-144 score in the sixth game to claim ninth place honors.
The Pioneers finished the weekend with a 5-7 record with five of their seven losses coming against nationally-ranked teams.
Tusculum (42-32 overall) returns to action next month (Mar. 18-20) for the Columbia 300 Music City Classic in Smyrna, Tennessee. It will be the final tune-up before the inaugural Conference Carolinas – Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship, Mar. 25-27 in Gastonia, North Carolina.
