MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Tusculum University women's bowling team is in third place after day one of the Hornet Classic. 

The Pioneers finished the five-game baker format contests with 4,439 total pins in the nine-team tournament.

Louisiana Tech has the first day lead with 4,818 total pins, while Emmanuel is second with 4678. Tusculum is third and one-pin ahead of tournament host Alabama State (4438). UAB is fifth with 4,416), followed by Jackson State (4343), Southern (4263), Alabama A&M (3965) and Grambling (3464).

Tusculum will play five traditional games on Saturday followed by the best-of-7 baker games in Sunday's bracket final.
