INDIANAPOLIS --- VICTORY!!! The Tusculum University women's bowling team recorded its first tournament win in program history by capturing the Women's Baker title at the 2021 Columbia 300 Western Shootout.
The Pioneers bowled a 25 Baker games on Saturday and finished with 4,649 total pinfall, winning by 80 pins over runner-up Campbellsville University (4,569). Nationally-ranked UAB finished third with 4,544 pins, followed by Calumet College of St. Joseph (4197), Judson University (4195), Notre Dame (Ohio) College (3959), Davenport University (3938) and Cumberland (Tenn.) University (3817).
After 15 games on Saturday, the Pioneers trailed No. 21 UAB, 2791 to 2773 before TU made a late charge to overtake the Blazers.
This weekend's tournament is a USBC event and is different from TU's usual women's tournaments where there are no wins and losses, only total pinfall and team placement count.
The Columbia 300 Western Shootout will conclude on Sunday and conducted at the Western Bowl in Indianapolis.
