Mundt second, Pioneers third at Railsplitter Classic

HARROGATE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's bowling team recorded three victories on Saturday including one against a nationally-ranked team as the Pioneers remained in third place after day two of the Railsplitter Classic. The three-day, eight-team tournament is being held at Hillcrest Lanes and hosted by Lincoln Memorial University.

The Pioneers posted a Saturday pin total of 4,838 to give the Black & Orange a tournament total 9,399.

Tusculum freshman Jordan Mundt posted the second highest pin tally in Saturday's traditional scored games as the Arlington, Tennessee native totaled 1,081 pins for a 216.2 average. She is second to LMU rookie Cassidy Anschutz who is first with 1,172 pins including a 300 game in her final match of the day.

TU senior Tacey Ballen is in ninth place with 987 pins (197.4), one ahead of junior teammate Erin Burkart (986, 197.2). Sophomore Alexa Tieto is 14th with 916 pins (183.2) while sophomore Abbygale Hunt is 18th individually with 868 pins (173.6).

Tusculum opened the day by defeating 23rd-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan College, 994-953. It is TU's 10th victory over a nationally-ranked foe in the program's young history. Mundt led the Pioneers with her 234, while Ballen bowled 212 and Burkart posted 200.

Tusculum followed with an impressive 988-918 win over traditional power UAB. Mundt paced the TU charge against the Blazers with her 233 and Burkart bowled a Saturday-best 221.

The Pioneers posted its third consecutive win on Saturday with a 923-783 decision against Belmont Abbey College. Mundt bowled a 216 and Tieto added 210 in the Tusculum victory.

TU matched up again versus UAB, but the Blazers, who were listed 21st in this year's NCAA preseason rankings, avenged Saturday's earlier loss to the Pioneers by a 1057-982 score. Mundt logged a 209, Hunt bowled 203 and Burkart added 197 in the loss.

Tusculum wrapped up the day with another rematch as TU and Kentucky Wesleyan met in a position standings game. The Panthers edged the Pioneers in the final frame to win 956-951. Ballen was the top Pioneer with her 213, while Burkart was second on the team with 201.

The tournament concludes on Sunday with bracket play and Baker Best-of-7 matches.
