ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University forward Kasey Johnson has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 22, the SAC office announced Monday.
Johnson, a graduate student from Greensboro, North Carolina, averaged 21.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game as the Pioneers finished their pre-holiday schedule with conference wins over UVa-Wise (89-85) and Queens (71-55) last week.
Against UVa-Wise on Wednesday, Johnson had 20 points and nine rebounds while shooting 7-for-11 from the field. In Saturday's win at Queens, Johnson had a game and season-high 22 points on 10-for-19 shooting while tying her career high with four steals. Johnson was a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line and shot 56.7 percent from the field in the victories.
Johnson, who recently joined the 1,000-point club at Tusculum, is third on the team in scoring at 11.4 points per game and ranks second on the squad in rebounding at 6.9 boards per game. Johnson has scored in double figures seven times in 11 games this season, including three games of 20 points or more.
The Pioneers (9-2, 4-1 SAC) will host Alice Lloyd in an exhibition game on Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Arena before resuming their SAC schedule on Saturday, Jan. 4 at home against Anderson.
