Pioneers seventh in latest D2SIDA Southeast Region poll

DURANGO, Colo. --- The Tusculum women's basketball team is ranked seventh in the latest D2SIDA Southeast Region poll, through games of January 14.

The Pioneers lost 90-67 on Wednesday to Carson-Newman, ranked first in the region and fourth in the national poll, then defeated Newberry 72-65 to improve to 11-4 overall and 6-3 in the South Atlantic Conference.

Carson-Newman (16-1) lost its first game of the season at Wingate on Saturday by a score of 68-54, but continues to be the unanimous top-ranked team in the regional poll. Wingate (13-3) moved up to second with wins over Lenoir-Rhyne and Carson-Newman, while North Georgia (12-2) stayed third following a pair of victories. Landers (12-3) fell to fourth after a loss to Georgia College, while Limestone (13-3) stays fifth following a win over ninth-ranked Belmont Abbey.

Anderson (12-5) swapped positions with Tusculum into sixth place following victories over Mars Hill and Coker, the latter in overtime, while Flagler (9-3), Belmont Abbey (10-5) and poll newcomer Lincoln Memorial (10-5) round out the top 10.

The Pioneers host Anderson on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Pioneer Arena before heading on the road to face Queens on Saturday at 2 p.m.
