Tusculum listed in NCAA Women's basketball statistics

INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum College women's basketball team is listed in this week's NCAA Division II statistics.

The Pioneers (3-1, 1-0 in South Atlantic Conference) are ranked in the top-50 in four statistical team categories, while seniors Shynese Whitener and Kristen McMillion are listed individually.

Tusculum currently leads the league in blocked shots and steals per game. The Pioneers 5.3 blocked shots per game average is 16th in the nation, while their 11 steals per contest is the 37th-best average in the country. TC is also 30th in the nation in field goal percentage defense (.333 - 3rd in SAC) and 47th in scoring defense (57.3 ppg - 3rd in SAC).

Whitener, a guard from Newton, North Carolina, leads the SAC in three individual categories, including her 4.5 steals per game average, which is third in NCAA Division II. Whitener is also tops in the conference in scoring (18.5 ppg) and assists (5.5 apg - 30th in NCAA II).

McMillion, a forward from Fayetteville, North Carolina, leads the SAC with her 2.25 blocked shots per game, which are 21st in NCAA II. Her 80 career blocked shots are sixth in the TC record book.

The Pioneers return to action this Saturday as they travel to Catawba for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
