Barksdale named All-South Atlantic Conference
ROCK HILL, S.C. ---

Tusculum College senior guard Breaira Barksdale has been named All-South Atlantic Conference in Women's basketball, as voted upon by the conference's 10 head coaches and announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Barksdale, a second-team selection, is the 21st All-SAC honoree for the Pioneers since joining the conference in 1999. The Baltimore, Md. native earned the recognition in her only season at Tusculum after playing three years at Division I UNC Asheville.

Barksdale averaged 11.0 points per game and shared the SAC lead in assists with 4.4 per contest. She also ranked fifth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4) and was tied for sixth in the conference in steals at 2.0 per game.

She started all 26 games at point guard and scored in double figures 18 times, including a career highs of 21 points and eight assists in a 77-68 victory at Carson-Newman on Feb. 6. Barksdale also had at least one steal in 22 games and led the team in assists a total of 21 times.

During the regular season, Barksdale led the Pioneers with 106 field goals, 113 assists and 52 steals and ranked third on the team with 23 three-pointers. She was also the team's top scorer in conference games with an average of 10.9 points per game.

Barksdale, who shared the conference lead in assists per game with Chloe Bully of Catawba, was one of two Pioneers to be named conference statistical champions. Senior guard Kendal Baxter led the league in three-pointers per game for the second straight season, making 74 in 26 games for an average of 2.8 per game that is good for 12th nationally.

Alissa Diaz of SAC regular-season champion Anderson was named conference Player of the Year, Tuccoa Brackett of Brevard was honored as Freshman of the Year and Jim Brunelli of Anderson claimed the Coach of the Year award.

The Pioneers (14-12) are the sixth seed in the Food Lion SAC Tournament and will play at third-seed Catawba tonight at 7 p.m. from Salisbury, N.C. The winner will advance to the conference semifinals to be played Saturday at Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C., followed by the championship game on Sunday.
