Tusculum to play at Catawba in SAC Women's Basketball Tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday
ROCK HILL, S.C. ---

The Tusculum College Women's basketball team will be on the road for the quarterfinal round of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament on Wednesday night when they play at Catawba College. Tip-off for Wednesday's game will be 7 p.m. from Goodman Gym in Salisbury, N.C.

The Pioneers finished 14-12 overall and earned the sixth seed in the tournament, while the Indians are 16-10 overall and are the third seed. Catawba swept the season series from Tusculum for the first time since the 2006-07 season.

Tusculum and Catawba have met four times in the SAC Tournament, with the Pioneers winning the last three meetings in 2006, 2007 and 2010, all in the quarterfinal round. The Indians' lone win came in the 2004 semifinals.

Last year, Tusculum entered the tournament as the third seed but lost 60-54 to Newberry, ending a streak of four consecutive trips to the conference championship game. The Pioneers won SAC Tournament titles in 2010 and 2011 and were runner-up in 2006, 2008 and 2009. All-time, Tusculum is 14-11 in SAC Tournament play including 10 wins in their last 13 games.

Catawba is looking for its fourth SAC Tournament championship, having won in 1993, 2001 and 2004. The Indians lost 65-41 to Wingate in last year's title game after defeating Lincoln Memorial and Newberry on their way to the finals. Catawba is 21-19 all-time in the SAC Tournament, but had lost seven straight quarterfinal games before last year's 75-65 win over Lincoln Memorial.

The winner of Wednesday's game will play the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between second-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne and seventh-seeded Wingate on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the semifinals from Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C.

The other quarterfinal matchups have top-seeded Anderson hosting eighth-seeded Lincoln Memorial and fourth-seeded Newberry at home against fifth-seeded Carson-Newman. The winners of those games will play in the first semifinal game on Saturday at noon.

The Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball championship game will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. from Greenville, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.
