Pioneers ranked among NCAA Division II stat leaders

INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum College Women's basketball team appears in the latest NCAA Division II Women's basketball statistical report, through games of Sunday, Feb. 5.

Junior guard Kendal Baxter is fourth in the nation in free-throw percentage and is ninth in three-point field goals per game, and senior forward Linda Aughburns is 33rd in rebound average in this week's report.

Baxter is shooting 92.1 percent (70-for-76) at the free-throw line, a total that leads the South Atlanti Conference and is tops among all Southeast Region players. She trails Emily Bayly of Le Moyne (93.3 percent), Heather Robbin of Emporia State (93.1 percent) and Peyton Adamson of Tarleton State (92.5 percent) in this week's rankings.

In three-pointers per game, Baxter is ninth at 3.0 three-pointers per contest, having made 60 threes in 20 games to lead the SAC. Jasmine Judge of Lander continues to lead Division II with 4.3 three-pointers per game (82 in 19 games).

Aughburns is ranked 33rd in rebounds per contest (195 in 20 games), including seven games of 10 rebounds or more. Aughburns is third in the SAC in rebounds per game, behind Dana Hicks of Catawba (5th nationally, 12.3 per game) and MaRanda Boddie of Lincoln Memorial (23rd, 10.2).

Senior forward Staci Hicks, who has led Division II in field-goal percentage twice this season, is just below the minimum of five made field goals per game and is not included in this week's report. Hicks, who has shot 61.0 percent (97-for-159) from the field this season, would lead the nation ahead of Sumiya Darden of Southwestern Oklahoma (60.6 percent).

As a team, the Pioneers are 16th in three-point field-goal percentage defense at 26.0 percent. Tusculum also ranks 24th in rebound margin with a differential of +7.3 rebounds per game, 43rd in winning percentage at .750 and is 46th in three-pointers made per game at 6.5 per game.

The Pioneers (15-5 overall, 9-3 SAC) carry a share of first place in the SAC standings into Wednesday night's game at Carson-Newman, which tips off at 6 p.m.
