Pioneers open competition at Vanderbilt Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- Members of the Tusculum University men's and women's indoor track and field teams began competition Friday at the two-day Vanderbilt Invitational.

Tusculum's men were led by Antonio Aparicio, who finished eighth in the 1000 meters and broke his own school record in the event, along with Marquel Pittman who was ninth in the 200 meters. The Tusculum women had three competitors in action on Friday.

The Pioneers will conclude the meet on Saturday beginning at 11:00 am Eastern.

MEN'S RECAP
Aparicio was second in his heat and was joined by teammates DeWayne Morris and Xavion Bogus as the only non-Division I runners in the field. Aparicio's time of 2:31.00 broke his record of 2:31.86 set at the VMI Winter Relays on Jan. 28, 2022.

Pittman was one of eight non-DI runners among the 41 competitors in the 200 meters, and won his section with a time of 21.94 seconds that is a personal record and puts him third on the Tusculum all-time performance list in the event.

In the long jump, Jamal Cash posted a mark of 6.55 meters (21 feet, 6 inches) which puts him fourth on the Pioneer performance list in the event. In the weight throw, Adrian Gumm had a season-best mark of 12.42 meters (40 feet, 9 inches) which is fourth-best in program history.

WOMEN'S RECAP
Competing against a deep field in the 200 meters, Kiera Taylor finished 41st overall with a time of 26.39 seconds with Theresa Green-White in 42nd place at 26.44 seconds.

In the weight throw, Amber Hogan registered a top mark of 12.06 meters (39 feet, 6 3/4 inches) which is tied for sixth-best in program history and just one inch off her career best of 39-7 3/4 (12.08m) set at the USC Indoor Open on Feb. 18, 2022.
