PITTSBURG, Kan. --- Tusculum University senior sprinter Widchard Guervil has advanced to the finals of the men's 60 meters and the men's 200 meters at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship, hosted by Pittsburg State University.

Guervil won his heats in both events on Friday and will compete for the national championship on Saturday. The 60 finals are scheduled for 6:20 p.m. (Eastern) followed by the 200 finals at 7:45 (Eastern) on Saturday.

Guervil ran in the third and final heat of the men's 60 preliminaries and automatically advanced to the finals by posting a winning time of 6.72 seconds. Guervil, who remained unbeaten in the 60 meters this season, was tied for fourth overall in preliminaries. In the 200 meters, Guervil ran in the second of four heats and placed first with a time of 21.31 seconds, leaving him fifth in prelims. His time in the 200 was his third-fastest of the season and the fourth-best of his career.

By qualifying for Saturday's finals, Guervil will add a fifth and sixth All-America honor to his extensive resume. Guervil was fourth in the 60 meters at the 2018 Indoor championship and eighth in the 100 meters at the 2018 Outdoor nationals. In 2020, Guervil qualified for the Indoor championship in both the 60 and 200, but the meet was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and all qualifiers were given All-America status.

Tusculum junior Zackary Nelson also competed on Friday and finished 15th overall in the 400 meters with a time of 48.33 seconds, his third-best mark of the season.
