Guervil, McMillen to run at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Sprinter Widchard Guervil and distance runner Nicole McMillen will represent Tusculum University at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held Friday-Saturday, March 13-14 at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.

Guervil will compete in the men's 60 meters and 200 meters, while McMillen will run in both the women's 3,000 and 5,000 meters for the Pioneers.

Guervil, a native of Fort Myers, Fla., will be competing at indoor nationals for the second time. A fourth-place finisher in the 60 meters at the 2018 NCAA championship meet, Guervil qualified for nationals with a time of 6.72 seconds set at the USC Open on Feb. 22. He will also compete in the 200 meters after being clocked at 21.29 seconds at the USC Open.

Guervil medaled in both events at the South Atlantic Conference Championship meet on March 1, finishing second in the 200 meters and third in the 60 meters. He is seeded eighth out of 17 runners in the 60 meters and 12th out of 18 competitors in the 200 meters.

Preliminaries in the 60 meters will be Friday at 4:15 p.m. Eastern, and the 200 prelims will be Friday at 6:10 p.m. Eastern. The top two finishers in each of the three heats of the 60 meters will advance to finals, along with the next two best times. In the 200 meters, five heats will be staged with the top eight times, regardless of heat finish, advancing. The 60 finals are Saturday at 5 p.m. Eastern, followed by the 200 meters at 6:30 p.m. Eastern.

McMillen will be making her debut at the NCAA Indoor championships, but took All-America honors in the steeplechase at the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor championships with a sixth-place finish. She is also a two-time competitor at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships.

The Pickering, Ontario native was honored as Southeast Region Track Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association after finishing with the fastest time in the region in the mile, 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters, along with the 4x400-meter relay.

She won both the 3,000 and 5,000 at the SAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, and qualified for nationals in the 3,000 with a time of 9:39.38 at the Carolina Challenge on Jan. 31 and in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:53.86 at the Camel City Invitational on Feb. 7. She is seeded 13th of 19 competitors in the 3,000 meters, and eighth out of 16 runners in the 5,000.

The women's 5,000 meters will be held on Friday at 6:55 p.m. Eastern, with the women's 3,000 meters starting at 7:10 p.m. Eastern on Saturday.
