Petit honored as SAC Track Athlete of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University sophomore sprinter Hachlaine Petit has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 2, the SAC announced Tuesday.

Petit broke a pair of South Atlantic Conference records over the weekend at the Carolina Challenge hosted by the University of South Carolina. She ran 57.05 seconds in the 400 meters on Friday to break the previous SAC record of 57.13 seconds set at last year's SAC Championships, while also breaking the school record of 57.22 seconds set by Raygene Minus. On Saturday, Petit ran in the 4x400-meter relay and helped the Pioneers to a SAC-record time of 3:51.76, besting the old mark of 3:52.15 and also breaking the school record of 3:53.84 set two weeks earlier. The 4x400 time of 3:57.76 was just .13 off the NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the event.

The Venissieux, France native also set the Tusculum school record in the 800 meters of 2:27.42 at the ETSU Invitational on Jan. 10, which was subsequently broken the following week by teammate Gabrielle Beckett at 2:24.81. Petit is sixth on the TU indoor performance list in the 200 meters, with a time of 26.42 seconds set at the Gamecock Opener on Jan. 17.

The Pioneers will run Friday and Saturday at the Camel City Invitational, hosted at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
