CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- A third-place finish in the men's triple jump from Yannick Rosalie highlighted day two performances by Tusculum at the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Johnson C. Smith at the Irwin Belk Complex.
The Tusculum men finished in 10th place in the standings with 16 points, while the Pioneer women claimed ninth place and had 19 points in their inaugural year competing at the conference meet.
MEN
Rosalie jumped 13.69 meters (44 feet, 11 inches) to take third place in the event, with Reginald Titre-Barnor giving the Pioneers two scorers in the event as he finished sixth with a jump of 13.39 meters (43 feet, 11 1/4 inches).
In the shot put, Christian Sisto finished 11th overall with a mark of 12.36 meters (40 feet, 6 3/4 inches) while Zach Lane placed 12th and had a season-best throw of 12.22 meters (40 feet, 1 1/4 inches). Evan Grooms competed in the discus and was 12th overall with a mark of 36.07 meters (118 feet, 4 inches).
The Pioneer 4x100 relay team of Jacob Acklin, Xavier Billups, Kedar Ashford and Jaydon Johnson finished in fifth place with a time of 42.03 seconds, and the 4x400 relay of Ashford, Jaydon Johnson, Malik Tann and J'Quen Johnson had a season-best time of 3:27.70 and placed ninth overall.
Will Cronin, who finished seventh in the 10,000 meters in the opening event of the championship, ran in the 5000 meters and finished in 21st place with a time of 16:13.64.
Queens won the team championship with 240.5 points, followed by Wingate with 171 points, Lenoir-Rhyne with 113 points, Carson-Newman with 81 points and Anderson with 56 points in the top five.
WOMEN
Raygene Minus turned in a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters and cut nearly two seconds off her season best by running 59.47 seconds in the finals, afer finishing eighth in preliminaries and earning the last spot in the championship field. In the 1500 meter finals, Nicole McMillan nearly duplicated her preliminaries time and finished in eighth place in 4:52.25.
Tusculum's 4x400 relay team of Bailey Pruiett, I'Keriah Day, Kesia Griffith and Minus broke the team season best by over seven seconds and finished fourth overall in 3:59.47, while the 4x100 relay team of Briana McDonald, Day, Minus and Jayla Lewis finished sixth with a season-best time of 49.30 seconds.
Alissa Furches competed in the 5000 meters for the Pioneers and ran 19:23.97 to finish in 15th place. In field events, Dynah Dunn was ninth in the shot put at 11.34 meters (37 feet, 2 1/2 inches) and 13th in the discus at 30.60 meters (100 feet, 5 inches).
Wingate outscored Queens in the final event to win the team championship, as the Bulldogs collected 206.5 points to 200 for the Royals. Lenoir-Rhyne was third with 127.5 points, followed by Coker with 95 points and Carson-Newman in fifth with 49 points.
