ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Emily Sappington of Tusculum University softball has been named South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced today. She is the first Pioneer to collect a SAC pitching honor since Taylor Plemons in 2018.
Sappington, a sophomore pitcher, tossed a 10 inning no-hitter, the longest in program history, in a game one win over Lenoir-Rhyne on March 29. The Ashburn, Va. native struck out nine Bears and the only blemish of the contest was a hit batter. This outing marked her second no-no of the season, tying her for the Pioneer season and career record.
On the week, Sappington pitched 21.1 innings for a 1-2 record, collecting 18 strikeouts with two walks and seven earned runs. In the batter's box, the lefty went 2-for-6 with four walks and was hit by one pitch over three games. She also assisted on two fielding plays.
