GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Jenna Restivo hit a
two-run walkoff double in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead
the Tusculum College softball team to a dramatic 8-7 victory over
Pfeiffer University in the first game of a doubleheader at Red
Edmonds Field on Saturday. The Pioneers swept the twinbill from the
Falcons with a 4-1 victory in the second contest.
Tusculum improves its record to 5-7 on the season, while
Pfeiffer falls to 8-11. The Pioneers will be back in action on
Monday (March 9) when they travel to take on the University of
Virginia at Wise. The twinbill is set to begin at 2 p.m.

The Pioneers recorded a season-high 16 hits in a wild
back-and-forth 8-7 victory over Pfeiffer n game one of the
doubleheader. Restivo was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with three
RBIs, the final two earning the TC victory.
Rachel Medley (1-3) captured her first victory of the season
in the circle after scattering eight hits and three walks in seven
and two-thirds innings of work, while recording three strikeouts.
Pfeiffer's Kristin Durant took the loss after surrendering six
earned runs on ten hits in three and a third innings in
relief.
Treslyn Reese and Kaytlin Stroinski each smashed a homer to
push across runs for the Pioneers. Reese finished the game with
three hits in five trips to the plate including a double.
The Falcons were first on the scoreboard with a pair of runs
in the top of the third, but Reese cut the lead in half with her
solo shot in the bottom of the fourth. In Tusculum's half of the
fifth inning, Carolyn Williamson had a one-out single and quickly
came around to score on Stroinski's two-run homer that gave TC its
first lead of the day. Reese and Restivo connected on back-to-back
doubles later in the inning to push another run across and give
Tusculum a 4-2 lead after five innings.
Eliza Davis entered the game to pitch after Pfeiffer's leadoff
single in the top of the sixth inning, but the Falcons struck for
four runs on four hits and an error off the Pioneer righty to take
a 6-4 lead. Tusculum was sat down in order in the bottom of the
sixth, but opened the seventh with three-straight singles by
Stroinski, Reese and Restivo.
After Durant recorded a strikeout, Brooke Rhodes stepped up to
the plate and hit a two-run double to tie the game at 6-6. However,
Durant was able to strikeout the next two batters to force extra
innings, and the Falcons pushed a run across in the top of the
eighth inning to take a 7-6 lead.
Alix Kruel was placed on second base as per the international
tie-break rule to start the bottom of the eighth. She reached third
base on a fielder's choice bunt by Nicole ball, who later stole
second base. Two batters later, Restivo stepped to the plate and
doubled to deep right center field, which scored Kruel and Ball to
send the Pioneers off with a victory.
Rhodes, Stroinksi, and Bailey Culler each finished with two
hits for Tusculum. Pfeiffer was led by Julie Bullington and Jaclyn
Boever, who both tallied two hits and an RBI.

Davis rebounded from a tough game-one outing to pitch seven
strong innings in Tusculum's 4-1 victory over Pfeiffer in game
two.
Davis (3-3) earned the victory in the circle after giving up
just one earned run and three hits while tallying five strikeouts.
The Falcons' Sam Jarmusch took the loss despite giving up just one
earned run on seven hits with four strikeouts.
Williamson led the Pioneer offense with a 2-for-3 effort at
the plate, while Stroinski, Restivo, Reese, and Rhodes each
recorded a hit and an RBI.
After just one hit between both teams in the first three
innings, the Falcons' Chandler Walker opened the top of the fourth
inning with a solo homer down the left field line. However, the
lead wouldn't stand long as TC answered with a run of its own in
the bottom half of the inning. Williamson hit a one-out single and
later stole second before advancing to third on a throwing error by
Pfeiffer catcher Rachel Crowder. Williamson came around to score on
a double by Stroinski.
After Davis sat the Falcons down in order in their half of the
fifth, Rhodes crushed a one-out homer over the left field fence in
the bottom half of the frame and gave the Pioneers a 2-1 advantage.
TC added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth
inning. Reese doubled home Williamson, who singled earlier in the
inning, and she later scored on an RBI single by Restivo.
Davis sat the Falcons down 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh to
seal the victory.
