The Tusculum College softball team appears throughout the latest
NCAA Division II statistics report, through games of Sunday, April
24. The Pioneers are ranked in the top 50 in four of the 11 team
categories, while four players account for nine top-50 appearances
on the individual leaderboards.
As a team, the Pioneers rank 10th in double plays per game (0.45),
12th in fielding percentage (.973), 30th in triples per game (0.31)
and 33rd in earned run average (1.95) among the 300 programs
included in the rankings report.
Pioneer senior Erin Searcy (Coolidge, Ga.) and sophomore Elizabeth
Johnson (Greenville, Wisc.) are both ranked among the pitching
leaders. Johnson is 17th in earned run average (1.16), 26th in
shutouts (seven), 38th in both victories (17) and fewest hits
allowed per seven innings (5.12) and 40th in saves (two), while
Searcy ranks 40th in shutouts (six).
Also ranked are junior outfielder Ashley Burke (North Augusta,
S.C.) and sophomore shortstop Lindsey Umberger (Madison, Wisc.).
Umberger is sixth in triples (six) and 19th in triples per game
(0.13) and Burke is 38th in sacrifice flies (three).
The Pioneers concluded their regular-season schedule with a 32-17
overall record, and finished in fourth place in the South Atlantic
Conference with an 11-7 mark. The 32 wins were the most for
Tusculum since joining NCAA Division II in 1999.
