GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- It was a good day to be a
Pioneer as both Tusculum College and Glenville State College each
went 2-0 in Saturday's action at the 2008 Tusculum/Comfort Inn
Classic, held this weekend at Red Edmonds Field.
Tusculum (2-2) recorded a pair of wins, while undefeated Glenville
State was victorious in its final at-bats.
Bellarmine 5, Montreat 0
Bellarmine's Sharon Brill tossed a four-hit shutout as the Knights
blanked Montreat 5-0. Brill helped her own cause by going 2-for-3
at the plate, including a pair of doubles, while Locke also went
2-for-4, including a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
Glenville State 2, Bellarmine 1
Candice White went 2-for-3 and scored the winning run on a
two-out fielding error in the bottom of the ninth as the Pioneers
walked off with a 2-1 victory and handing Bellarmine its first loss
of 2008. White accounted for one of the three doubles post by
GSC.
Mandy Parkulo scattered two hits, allowed an unearned run and
struck out two in her seven innings of work.
BU's Casey Willard pitched well as she allowed just five hits, two
runs, one earned and struck out five.
Tusculum 10, Montreat 3
Eight different Pioneers recorded hits as host Tusculum defeated
Montreat 10-3. The Pioneers plated runs in five of their six plate
appearances, including a four-run sixth inning. Jennifer Turley,
Ashley Basilicato and Lynnsey Jett scored two runs each, while
Taylor MacDonald had two RBI. Cori McVeigh picked up the win as she
allowed five hits, two runs and struck out four.
Montreat's Mandi Pike posted two hits in the loss.
Glenville State 4, Seton Hill 3
It was another late thriller for Glenville State as the Pioneers
scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to edge Seton Hill,
4-3. Meagan James laid down a suicide squeeze in the Pioneers final
at-bat, scoring Lacey Powell for the win.
Stacy Mack accounted for two hits for GSC, while Brooke Foster was
perfect 2-for-2, including a triple.
Tusculum 5, Seton Hill 4
In the final game of the Classic, Tusculum rallied from behind
twice in posting a 5-4 win over Seton Hill. Tusculum got two hits
each by MacDonald, Turley and Shanda Kimbrough. Megan DuBois picked
up her first win of the season, as she squashed a late rally the
Griffins.
SHU's Erika Yates went 3-for-3, while Lyndsey Nusser added a
2-for-3 performance.
