Pioneers force Wildcats to fifth set

FORT VALLEY, Ga. --- The Tusculum University men's volleyball team nearly pulled off a reverse sweep of Fort Valley State on Friday night (Feb. 24). The Pioneers ultimately fell in the decisive fifth set to drop its fifth-straight match.

The Wildcats (3-9) survived the Pioneers' (3-11) comeback by scores of 25-16, 25-21, 12-25, 17-25, 15-8.

FVSU was led by Jaxon Hicks with 15 kills, just ahead of Isaiah Fedd's 13. Justin Yates recorded 40 assists, while Fedd landed three service aces. Fedd rounded out his double-double with a match-best 11 digs. Oshane Farguharson is credited with seven block assists, one more than Rashaun Wright.

Colby Landry collected 19 kills on a .519 hitting percentage to power the Pioneers. Shaphar Grant tallied 11 kills on a .400 clip. Tristan Blake notched 33 assists, while both Deklan Wingo and Landry racked up a pair of aces. Wingo finished with a team-high six digs, ahead of Landry's five. Grant and Wingo added their season-best block totals with eight (one solo, seven assists) and six (all assists) in the effort, respectively.

Fort Valley State hit .243 as a team with 47 kills and 22 errors on 103 total attempts. Tusculum averaged .233 with 51 kills, 24 errors, and 116 total attacks. The Wildcats led the match in assists (44-43), digs (36-28), and total blocks (15-10), while the Pioneers recorded more service aces (7-6).

Tusculum continues its stay in Georgia by taking on Morehouse (0-6) in a Saturday afternoon (Feb. 25) match. First serve between the Pioneers and Maroon Tigers is scheduled for 2 p.m. There will be no live video or statistics offered by Morehouse.
