Pioneers clipped at Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. --- The Tusculum University men's volleyball team wrapped up its trip to West Virginia with a matchup against Charleston on Saturday night (Jan. 28).

The Golden Eagles (7-0) took the second all-time meeting with the Pioneers (3-7) by scores of 25-15, 25-15, 25-19.

Lachlan Bray finished with a match-best 15 kills on a .545 hitting percentage to head up the Charleston attack. Diego Villafane dished out 29 assists and landed a pair of service aces. Will Kimenhour added the remaining ace. Bray also tallied a match-high eight digs for the Golden Eagles. Kimenhour is credited with four total blocks (two solo, two assists), as is Luuk Hoge Bavel (one solo, three assists).

Jake Whyte led Tusculum in kills for the second time this weekend, notching eight. Colby Landry and Deklan Wingo followed with six and five, respectively. Jaden Bramhall came in off the bench to record 14 assists. Hunter Walck tallied the lone Pioneer ace of the match. Matt Moore finished with a team-best five digs. Whyte (two assists) and Shaphar Grant (one solo, one assist) are credited with two blocks.

Charleston hit .423 as a team with 40 kills and 10 errors on 71 total attempts. Tusculum averaged .099 with 24 kills, 17 errors, and 71 total attacks. The Golden Eagles led the Pioneers in assists (34-24), service aces (3-1), digs (26-17), and total blocks (7.5-3).

Tusculum goes to the Northeast next weekend, facing off against the Princeton Tigers on Saturday (Feb. 4). First serve from the Garden State is scheduled for 4 p.m.
