Tusculum edged out by ranked Warriors

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's volleyball team battled the seventh-ranked team in the NAIA on Saturday (Mar. 12) afternoon. Indiana Tech came away with the victory in Pioneer Arena.

The top-10 Warriors (20-1) won by scores of 25-18, 25-17, 20-25, 25-13 to get by the Pioneers (5-12).

Mason Milan landed a match-best 14 kills on a .706 hitting percentage for Tech. Brandon Jones tallied 35 assists, while Daynte Stewart collected four service aces. Dante Siracusa had a team-high seven digs from the back row. At the net, Chase Christiansen participated in five total blocks (one solo, four assists).

Tusculum got a career-high 12 kills from Colby Landry, followed by 10 by Deklan Wingo on a .444 clip. Jake Whyte notched nine kills, rounded out by Shaun Kampshoff (2) and Reese DeElena (1). On a night when the Pioneers needed him, Taylor West stepped into a new role. Playing his collegiate career as a libero, West was a starting outside hitter and added six kills for TU. Kampshoff dished out 35 assists, while four Pioneers landed an ace: Wingo. Kampshoff, Landry, and DeElena. Ross Miller scooped up a team-best eight digs, just ahead of Landry's six. Wingo led the front row defense with three block assists.

Indiana Tech ended the match with a .303 hitting percentage with 41 kills and 14 attack errors on 89 total attempts. Tusculum totaled 40 kills, 30 errors, and 104 swings for a .096 hitting percentage. The Warriors held the advantage over the Pioneers in aces (9-4) and total blocks (11-4), while the teams tied with 40 assists and 31 digs.

Tusculum will travel to nationally-ranked Grand Canyon for a trio of matches out West next weekend (Mar. 18-19). The Pioneers will faces the Lopes twice and finish against Benedictine Mesa.
