Erskine comeback downs Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's volleyball team earned the first set win over Erskine on Saturday (Feb. 5) afternoon, but the visitors won the final three highly-contested frames.

The Flying Fleet (2-8) won by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-19 to defeat the Pioneers (1-5).

Kacper Rybarczyk led Erskine with 14 kills as the primary source of offense for the Flying Fleet. Juan Alcoba handed out 30 assists, while Aidon Love landed a pair of service aces. Edgerrin Austin scooped up a match-high 12 digs from the back row as Jon Fuller notched six total blocks (one solo, five assists) at the net.

Jake Whyte recorded a season-best 15 kills against his former team. Colby Landry (10) also collected double-digits kills for the first time this season. Dane Loup (8), Shaphar Grant (7), Shaun Kampshoff (2), and Deklan Wingo (1) rounded out the scoring for TU. Kampshoff tallied 39 assists and finished with a team-high two aces. Defensively, Landry racked up eight digs, just ahead of seven by both Whyte and Kampshoff. Libero Taylor West was just behind with six digs. Grant was a part of five blocks (one solo, four assists) and Wingo assisted in four.

Erskine ended the match with a .110 hitting percentage with 36 kills and 25 attack errors on 100 total attempts. Tusculum totaled 43 kills, 30 errors, and 115 swings for a .113 hitting percentage. The Flying Fleet led the match in aces (6-5) and digs (37-33), while the Pioneers held the 41-32 assist advantage. The foes tied with 10 total blocks each.

Tusculum stays home for another weekend series, beginning with Limestone on Friday (Feb. 11) night.
