Pioneers up a spot to 29th in ITA rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. --- The Tusculum University men's tennis team climbed one position to 29th in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II team rankings, the ITA announced Wednesday.

The Pioneers (14-3, 7-0 South Atlantic Conference) beat 29th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne 5-2 in their only match last week, then beat Mars Hill on Tuesday for their 11th consecutive victory.

A total of six SAC teams are in this week's rankings, led by Wingate in 24th and the Pioneers in 29th. Also ranked are Lenoir-Rhyne (32nd), Lincoln Memorial (41st), Catawba (45th) and Carson-Newman (49th). Tusculum's non-conference opponents who are ranked are Saint Leo (1st), North Georgia (10th) and Charleston (15th).

Tusculum has rescheduled its match against Carson-Newman from Thursday to Monday, April 8 at 1 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex. The Pioneers' next match will be Saturday, April 6 at Wingate, beginning at 11 a.m. The Bulldogs are the other unbeaten team in conference play at 8-0 and are 10-5 overall.
