Pioneers rally to knock off 37th-ranked Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. --- Wins in the final three singles matches rallied Tusculum University to a 4-3 victory at Limestone University in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action Friday afternoon.

The 35th-ranked Pioneers (9-4, 5-0 SAC) trailed 3-1 midway through singles, but won the final three matches in straight sets to knock off the 37th-ranked Saints (5-4, 3-2 SAC) and remain tied for first place in the SAC with Wingate at 5-0.

The Saints earned the doubles point with wins at flights one and two, with the Pioneers earning a 6-1 win at flight three as Nathan Matsuguma and Kenta Kondou claimed the victory over Thomas Jouanneau and Rodolfo Villavicencio.

Limestone would go up 2-0 with a win from Andre Zamorano at flight three, but Tusculum would get on the board at flight five behind a 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) victoy by Ivan Ivars over Barthelemy Bourdon. A three-set win by Diego Arzaluz at flight one would push the Saints ahead 3-1 and within reach of the victory.

However, the Pioneers stormed back as Nemanja Subanovic beat Ramiro Rincon Hernandez 6-1, 6-4 at flight two, Frank Bonacia downed Andres Cortes 6-3, 6-3 at flight four, and Matsuguma capped the rally with a 6-0, 6-4 triumph at flight six over Jouanneau.
