Pioneers compete at Carson-Newman in final fall tournament

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. --- Members of the Tusculum University men's tennis team competed in round-robin action this weekend at Carson-Newman University.

The Pioneers faced off with the host Eagles and the University of the Cumberlands in both singles and doubles action, spread out over Saturday and Sunday. The Pioneers earned three singles wins and one doubles victory during the event.

Claiming singles wins for the Pioneers were Nathan Matsuguma, who beat Lucas Augotr of Cumberlands 6-4, 4-6, (10-8), along with Ivan Ivars who defeated Quentin Villetorte of Cumberlands 6-4, 6-4. Also winning for the Pioneers was Will Gee, who defeated Pierluigi Cruypenninck of Cumberlands by a 7-6, 6-1 score.

In doubles play, Matsuguma teamed with Yuki Ikeda for an 8-6 win over the Cumberlands team of Lin En Tan and Juan Cruz Alcon.

Tusculum will wrap up its fall season on Saturday, Oct. 29 at noon against North Greenville University at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
