Pioneers move to 36th in ITA Division II Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. --- The Tusculum University men's tennis team moved up two positions to 36th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II National Computer Rankings, released this week.

Senior Frank Bonacia remained 43rd in Division II in singles for the Pioneers, who are 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the South Atlantic Conference. Tusculum was ranked 38th in the first ITA National Computer Rankings which were released last week.

In addition to Tusculum, other ranked SAC teams are Carson-Newman (24th), Wingate (34th), Anderson (38th), Lenoir-Rhyne (41st) and Lincoln Memorial (47th). Also ranked are Pioneer non-conference opponents North Georgia (9th), Lee (15th), Charleston (18th) and Belmont Abbey (23rd).

Bonacia has a 12-5 record in singles for the Pioneers this season, including a 4-3 record in dual matches and 3-1 in conference play. The Rome, Italy native is 3-3 against players ranked in either the preseason or current national singles polls this season.

The ITA Rankings Algorithm is based on an accumulation of win points and loss points, accounting for a win-loss record, the strength of schedule, and the depth/significance of wins and losses. As the season progresses, the value of each win and loss adjusts to reflect the most recent ranking of the opponent.

Tusculum has not played since March 7 due to weather-related postponements, but the Pioneers are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 19 at Limestone at 2 p.m.
