GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's tennis team defeated Bethel (Tenn.) University 6-1 in non-conference action Monday morning at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Pioneers (6-4) swept the doubles point from the Wildcats (3-3) and won five of the six singles matches in straight sets to earn the victory.
Tusculum grabbed the doubles point as Nemanja Subanovic teamed with Marco Jalalian for a 6-0 win at flight one over Pedro D'Avila Vecchi and Pedro Bonato Donadon, followed by Nathan West and Kenta Kondou beating Marcos Neves and Renato Gravina 6-1 at flight two. The Pioneers finished the doubles sweep as Lluis Tomas and Nathan Matsuguma beat Juan David Hernandez and Jeffrey Lee 6-4 at flight three.
In singles, the Pioneers went ahead 3-1 as Miles Ray beat Hernandez 6-1, 6-0 at flight two and Ivan Ivars defeated Vecchi 7-5, 6-1 at flight four. Bethel staved off defeat as Donadon picked up a 6-7, 7-6 (7-3) win over Tomas at flight six.
Tusculum clinched the match at flight one, where Subanovic beat Neves by a 6-3, 6-1 score. West defeated Lee 6-0, 6-2 at flight five and Jalalian defeated Gravina 6-2, 6-2 at flight three to wrap up the day.
The Pioneers will return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Lincoln Memorial at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
