Three-set matches go to Anderson in 5-2 win over Pioneers

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Anderson University earned three of its four singles victories in three sets, including a pair of tiebreaker wins, as the Trojans defeated Tusculum University 5-2 in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action Wednesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Trojans (12-2, 2-1 SAC) rallied from down a set in two of their singles wins over the Pioneers (6-3, 1-1 SAC), who received a straight-set singles win from Frank Bonacia and a pro-set victory by Vadzim Raitsou.

Anderson claimed the doubles point by winning two of the three matches, with Tusculum winning at flight one as David Akinpetide and Leon Huck defeated Thomas Smalley and Jeffrey Dayton 6-3.

In singles, 23rd-ranked Ignacio Bidegain came back for a 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) win over Akinpetide at flight one, and Adam Kush rallied to win 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) at flight three over Huck. At flight five, the Trojans' Aaron Cabo held on for a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win over Manuel Guedes de Almeida.

Bonacia had no trouble at flight two, beating Smalley 6-1, 6-0, and Raitsou defeated Preston Morpeth 8-2 in a pro set at flight four. In the final match, Dayton won 8-2 over Gabriel Yaguar at flight six.

The Pioneers will travel to face Coker on Saturday, March 7 at 2 p.m.
