WINGATE, N.C. --- Wingate defeated Tusculum 9-0 in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action Sunday afternoon.
The 42nd-ranked Bulldogs (15-3, 10-1 SAC) assured themselves a first-round bye in the upcoming SAC Championships by sweeping the Pioneers (10-10, 5-5 SAC) in doubles and winning three of the six singles matches in straight sets.
The Pioneers' closest match came at number-four singles, where Wingate's Josh DuToit edged David Siegle 10-6 in a tiebreaker after DuToit won the first set 6-1 and Siegle took the second set 6-3.
Tusculum will return home to face North Greenville in a non-conference match on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
