Lukas Winkelmann named SAC Player of the Year for third-straight season
ROCK HILL, S.C. --- For a third-straight season, Tusculum student-athlete Lukas Winkelmann has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year. In addition, Jonas Winkelmann, Nic Planchard, Leon Seiz, and Tashique Kader have earned All-Conference honors.

Lukas Winkelmann becomes the first men's tennis player in conference history to earn SAC player of the year honors in three consecutive seasons. It is the first season since 2008 that the Pioneers landed five players on the All-Conference squad.

Lukas Winkelmann and Planchard were both named to the first team singles squad while Jonas Winkelmann was an honorable mention singles selection. Lukas and Jonas Winkelmann were first team doubles selections while Seiz and Kader were honorable mention picks.

Lukas Winkelmann is ranked 10th in the ITA National Singles Rankings and third in the Southeast Region. He owns a perfect 17-0 mark in the top flight and is currently riding a 50-match regular season winning streak dating back to last season.

The senior from Böblingen, Germany won five matches and advanced to the finals of the top singles bracket at the ITA Southeast Regional tournament back in the fall. He owns wins against regionally ranked opponents from Queens and Bluefield State and has been named the SAC Player of the Week twice. Lukas Winkelmann is also the two-time defending SAC Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year and a Capital One Academic All-American®.

Planchard lands on the All-SAC first team for the third-straight season and was the 2013 Freshman of the Year. He owns a career singles record of 41-6 playing primarily in the second position. The junior from Frisange, Luxemburg earned a key point in the Pioneers' victory over Queens earlier this season. Planchard is also an ITA Scholar Athlete and has been named to the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Jonas Winkelmann also becomes a three-time All-SAC honoree after being selected to the second team last season. He owns a 44-11 career record after a 12-4 mark this year that also included a crucial point in the victory over Queens.

Jonas Winkelmann was selected as the SAC Player of the Week on March 23. He owns numerous accolades in the classroom as well, including ITA Scholar Athlete and a spot on the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll.
The Winkelmann brothers earned a spot on the All-Conference first team for the second-consecutive season. 2015 has been a stellar year so far for the duo as they have compiled a perfect 17-0 record and own a win over a regionally ranked pair from Queens. Only two teams have won at least six games against them and they have won five matches by surrendering three or less games.

Kader and Seiz have made an immediate impact in their first year as a doubles pairing. After earning preseason All-SAC honors, the duo owns a 13-3 record playing primarily in the two spot. Kader and Seiz began the season with a seven-match winning streak and won five of their last six to close out the regular season. Back in the fall, they won three matches en route to a trip to the semifinals of the "B" doubles bracket at the ITA Southeast Regional tournament.

Joining Lukas Winkelmann as major award winners were Wingate's Amir Zari, who was named freshman of the Year, and Michael Cabana of Wingate who was recognized as SAC Coach of the Year.

The Pioneers finished with a 17-1 overall record and won a share of the SAC Championship, the fifth in school history. Tusculum will play either Anderson or Lincoln Memorial on Friday at 9 a.m. in the semifinals of the SAC Tournament in Brevard, North Carolina.
