GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The 43rd ranked
Tusculum College men's tennis team capped off an undefeated South
Atlantic Conference record at the Nichols Tennis Complex in the
2015 season with an 8-1 win over Lincoln Memorial University on
Thursday.
Lukas Winkelmann sealed the victory for Tusculum (14-1, 7-1
SAC) in the top spot with his 47th-straight regular season singles
victory, topping Joshua Coulthard by a 6-4, 6-3 margin. Nicolas
Planchard picked up a win over LMU's (6-5, 5-3) Will Sparks (6-2,
6-4) in the second flight.
Leon Seiz and Joshua Peress fought hard in the fourth spot,
but Seiz was able to earn a narrow 6-2, 1-6, 10-2 win. Tashique
Kader and Toby de Klerk had little trouble in the fifth and sixth
spots respectively. Kader blanked Guilherme Rocha 8-0 while de
Klerk bested Carlos Zunino 8-1.
TC swept through doubles play. Lukas Winkelmann teamed with
brother Jonas Winkelmann and the duo defeated Coulthard and Sparks
8-4 in the top flight. Leon Seiz and Kader were 8-5 winners over
Pepe Batalla and Peress in the second spot while Joseph Elphinstone
and David Seigle defeated Rocha and Zunino 8-5 in the third
spot.
The Pioneers will begin a three-match road trip on Saturday
when they head to Charlotte, North Carolina to take on Queens
University of Charlotte. First serves are set for 2 p.m.
