GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The 43rd ranked
Tusculum College men's tennis team were 6-3 winners over
Carson-Newman University on Wednesday at the Nichols Tennis
Complex.
Tusculum (13-1, 6-1 South Atlantic Conference) was led by
Lukas Winkelmann who won his 46th-straight regular-season singles
match by besting Joao Pedro Oliveria (6-2, 6-1) in the top flight.
Jonas Winkelmann picked up a win in the third position by defeating
Stefano Daza 6-1, 6-2.
Leon Seiz earned a crucial point for TC with a win over Austin
Mackay (6-2, 6-3) in the fourth flight.
Tashique Kader only dropped two games in his win over Kevin
Mendes (6-1, 6-1) in the fifth position.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 2-1 lead over Carson-Newman (3-8,
2-6) after doubles play. Lukas and Jonas Winkelmann teamed together
and stayed undefeated this season with an 8-3 win over Daza and
Garret Duron in the top spot. Kader and Seiz were also winners for
TC by defeating Oliveria and Mackay (8-5) in the third
flight.
The Pioneers will return to the courts for the final SAC home
event of the season on Thursday when they play host to Lincoln
Memorial University beginning at 2 p.m. Prior to the match, TC will
honor Lukas Winkelmann and Joseph Elphingstone in its annual senior
day ceremony.
