GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College
men's tennis team returned from a three-game road swing in Hilton
Head, South Carolina and defeated Lenoir-Rhyne University 8-1 on
Thursday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
TC improves its overall mark to 9-0 and its South Atlantic
Conference record to 2-0, while Lenoir-Rhyne falls to 2-4 overall
and 0-1 in the SAC. Lukas Winkelmann, ranked 12th in the latest ITA
Division II national rankings, was tested by Marvin Mueller in the
top singles position but earned a 7-6, 7-5 victory. Nicolas
Planchard defeated Robin Hochguertel in the second spot (6-3,
7-6).
Leon Seiz bested Filip Dobrosavljevic at number four (6-2,
6-1), while Tashique Kader rolled past Matthew Ledford (6-1, 6-1)
in the fifth spot. Toby de Klerk rounded out singles play with win
over John Christian Reid at number six (8-5).
On the doubles side, Lukas and Jonas Winkelmann teamed up and
knocked off Patrick Bauer and Mueller in the top flight (9-8).
Kader and Seiz had little trouble against Dobrosavljevic and
Ledford at number two, winning 8-1, while Planchard and de Klerk
defeated Hochguertel and Reid (8-6) in the third spot.
After a tough stretch of four-straight matches, Tusculum will
have a few days off before returning to action on the road at SAC
rival Wingate University on Friday, March 20th, beginning at 2
p.m.
