Tusculum College posted its third consecutive shutout and 11th
straight win overall with a 9-0 victory over Brevard College in a
South Atlantic Conference men's tennis match Sunday afternoon at
the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Pioneers (14-3, 7-1 SAC) have won 21 consecutive singles
matches over their last four contests and have shut out their
opponents in six of their last eight matches. The Tornados dropped
to 1-15 overall and 0-8 in the SAC with the loss.
In doubles play, Lukas Winkelmann and Jonas Winkelmann won their
ninth straight match and improved to 14-1 with an 8-2 victory over
David Taggart and Rory Northam at flight one. David Siegle and
Joseph Elphingstone claimed their fourth straight win by beating
Christoph Plasa and Guilherme Prophirio 8-2 at flight two. At
flight three, Nicolas Planchard and Leon Seiz won their ninth in a
row and went to 10-2 this season with an 8-1 win over Nathan Sabate
and George Finch.
In singles, Lukas Winkelmann went to 17-0 at flight one with a 7-5,
6-0 win over Taggart, Planchard defeated Northam 6-1, 6-0 at flight
two to move to 16-1, and Jonas Winkelmann saw his record climb to
15-2 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at flight three over Sabate.
At flight four, Siegle captured his eighth win in a row by downing
Plasa 6-2, 6-0, Seiz won his 11th straight match and went to 13-3
after beating Prophirio 6-3, 6-1 at flight five, and Elphingstone
closed out the sweep by edging Finch 11-9 in a tiebreaker to stay
perfect at 7-0 this season.
The Pioneers face off with a pair of nationally-ranked conference
opponents this week, starting on Tuesday at noon against
34th-ranked Wingate at the Nichols Tennis Complex. Tusculum goes on
the road on Thursday at 33rd-ranked Coker before closing out their
conference schedule on Saturday at home against Queens.
