BRENTWOOD, Tenn. ---

Tusculum College sophomore men's tennis player Lukas Winkelmann has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District® III Men's At-Large team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and released Thursday.

Winkelmann is one of 10 student-athletes named to the All-District team. The honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected on June 5.

The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete Award winner, Winkelmann compiled a 17-2 record at number-one singles and a 13-6 mark at number-one doubles for the Pioneers, who won the SAC championship for the fourth time in program history. Tusculum finished 15-5 overall and 8-1 in SAC matches during the 2012-13 season.

Winkelmann, a native of Boeblingen, Germany and the SAC Freshman of the Year in 2012, finished the regular season with 12 consecutive victories and compiled a perfect 9-0 record in singles action in conference matches. In two seasons, Winkelmann has a 29-7 record in singles for the Pioneers.

In the classroom, Winkelmann sports a 3.93 GPA studying pre-medicine. He has earned selections to the Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll, the TC President's List, the Charles Oliver Gray Honors List, the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll and the ITA All-Academic Team.

Winkelmann serves in numerous leadership roles, including as a team captain and as a representative on the Pioneer Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He has also volunteered with Tusculum fundraisers and assisted the school in hosting the 2012 SAC Cross Country Championship.

The Capital One Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2012-13 DII Academic All-America® teams program.
