ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College freshman Jonas Winkelmann has been honored as the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in men's tennis for the week ending April 14, the conference office announced Monday.

Winkelmann won a pair of matches in singles and doubles as the Pioneers claimed the SAC Championship with wins over Brevard (8-1) and Lincoln Memorial (6-3) last week. With his wins, Winkelmann is now 13-3 in singles and 11-7 in doubles this season.

In singles play, Winkelmann defeated Stefano Giovanolli of Brevard 6-0, 6-0 and downed Marcelo Alvim 6-4, 7-5 to extend his streak of consecutive wins to eight. In doubles, he teamed with John Taylor for an 8-3 win over Brevard's team of Giovanolli and George Finch, then partnered with his brother, Lukas, for an 8-4 win over the Lincoln Memorial duo of Philipp Hoffmann and Alexey Minevskiy.

Winkelmann joins his brother Lukas, Paul Wiederspahn and Nicolas Planchard as SAC Player of the Week honorees this season. The quartet has helped the Pioneers to 11 straight wins and a 14-4 overall record. Tusculum shared the SAC championship with Anderson as both teams finished 8-1 in league play.

The Pioneers close out their regular season at the Nichols Tennis Complex on Tuesday at 3 p.m. against King.
