Tusculum men even record, Pioneers win 8-1 at Milligan

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College men's tennis team swept singles action en route to an 8-1 non-conference victory at Milligan College Wednesday afternoon at the Mathes Tennis Center.

The Pioneers (3-3) captured two of the three doubles matches, including an 8-1 pro set win by the TC duo of Joseph Elphingstone and Paul Wiederspahn over the Milligan pairing of Caleb Triddell and Carlton Tugman at No. 3 doubles.

TC's John Taylor and Jonas Winkelmann accounted for an 8-5 win at the second flight over Sebastian Jonsson and Jackson Lenoir.

Milligan (1-5) salvaged a point at No. 1 doubles as Andy Pullen and Colin Bumann outlasted Lukas Winkelmann and Nicolas Planchard, 9-8.

Lukas Winkelman and Planchard bounced back with straight set singles wins. Winkelmann defeated Pullen, 6-2, 6-4 at the first flight, while Planchard won his match over Jonsson, 6-0, 6-0.

TC also got singles wins by Jonas Winkelmann, Wiederspahn, Taylor and Daniel Gianopulos to close out the match.

Tusculum returns to action Friday afternoon when the Pioneers host Newberry for a 2 p.m. South Atlantic Conference contest at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
