ROYALS SWEEP DOUBLES TO EDGE MEN'S TENNIS 5-4

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis swept all three doubles points, but had to hold off a furious singles rally by Tusculum as the Royals edged the Pioneers 5-4 Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex. The loss snapped a 14-match home winning streak for Tusculum (2-1).

The duo of Ankit Mody and Christian Lee-Daigle defeated TC's No. 1 doubles pairing of Thomas Rees and Drew Kiser, 8-6 in pro sets. Levi Bent-Lee and Jonathan O'Rourke blanked the Pioneer duo of Henrique Rodrigues and Hunter Beal 8-0 at the second flight, while Alex McKinzie and Edwin Ramirez won 8-6 over TC's Leo Guaycurus and Steven Lin at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Lee-Daigle won in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) over Clayton at the third flight, but Rees rallied from a set down for Tusculum to beat Bent-Lee 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. The singles match between Mody and Rodrigues was a battle at the top flight. Mody won the first set 6-4, but Rodrigues fought back and won 6-0 in the second. Mody would clinch the deciding point of the match with his 6-4 win in third frame.

Tusculum got singles wins from Guaycurus, Beal and Lin to provide for the final margin.

This was the final fall match for the Pioneers. They will open spring play Feb. 20 when TC travels to UVa-Wise for a 3 p.m. match.
