BREVARD, N.C. --- The Brevard College men's tennis team
edged No. 36 Tusculum College 5-4 at the Brevard Tennis Courts.
Brevard improves to 14-3 (5-3 SAC) with the win, while the Pioneers
fall to 9-8 (3-4 SAC).
Jarred Fisher won the fifth and final point by
defeating Tusculum's Leo Guaycurus in a three-set
marathon, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4.
The Tornados captured two of the three doubles matches, winning
8-6 at the first and third flights. Tusculum's lone doubles point
came at the second flight as Guaycurus and Henrique
Rodrigues defeated Fisher and Heikki Riikonen, 9-8 in pro
sets.
Thomas Rees posted a straight set win over
Konstantin Savelyev (6-1, 6-0) to tie the match at 2-2. But
Riikunen and Cole Alrtizer won their respective singles matches to
move BC back into the lead at 4-2.
TC's Steven Lin won a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6
decision over Andrew Thompson at No. 5 singles and Drew
Kiser followed with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Shane
Apps to knot the match at 4-4 setting up the deciding match at No.
4 singles.
The Pioneers are back on the road Sunday for a 1 p.m. match at
Lees-McRae College.
