De Giorgi named All-Southeast Region by D2CCA

NEWBERRY, S.C. --- Tusculum College senior forward Andre De Giorgi has been named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Southeast Region team in men's soccer, the D2CFCA announced Wednesday. De Giorgi was a second-team selection as voted upon by the athletic media relations staffs of the NCAA Division II Southeast Region.

De Giorgi helped the Pioneers to their second South Atlantic Conference tournament championship in the last three years and the Pioneers' first berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament since 2008 by scoring a team-high 16 goals in 20 matches, including five game-winners. His 16 goals and 33 points both ranked second in the conference to SAC Player of the Year Ismael Noumansana of Lenoir-Rhyne.

De Giorgi, a first-team All-SAC selection, scored at least one goal in 12 of the Pioneers' 20 matches, including a pair in Tusculum's 2-1 double-overtime victory over Lincoln Memorial in the SAC Tournament finals on Nov. 6. De Giorgi's goal in the second extra period delivered the Pioneers their SAC-record sixth tournament championship and earned him tournament Most Valuable Player honors.

Nine of his 16 goals were scored in the Pioneers' 11 conference matches, including two goals apiece in a 3-0 win over Newberry on Oct. 2 and a 4-1 victory over Brevard on Oct. 12. De Giorgi had two separate streaks of scoring goals in three straight matches, and did not go more than two games without a goal all season.

The Lisbon, Portugal native was a two-year member of the program who had 17 goals and five assists for 39 points in 36 career matches, including five game-winning goals this season.

The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
