MARS HILL, N.C. --- Andreas Kvam scored two goals and assisted on two others as Tusculum erupted for five unanswered goals in the second half as the Pioneers defeated host Mars Hill 5-1 Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action.
Tusculum (8-4-1, 5-2-1 SAC) has won four of its last five matches, while scoring a season-high five goals to improve to 7-1 on the road this year.
Trailing 1-0 at the intermission, the Pioneers got the equalizer from Jonathan Spicher as he took a crossing pass from Andre De Giorgi in the 49th minute to level the match.
Tyler Linkous gave TC its first lead when he scored his first goal of 2015, which was assisted by Kvam in the 59th minute.
Gary Dunlop notched his first goal in a Tusculum uniform as he took a cross from Kvam and buried the shot in the 68th minute and a 4-1 lead.
Kvam put the match out of reach with his team-leading fourth and fifth goals of the season to provide the final margin of victory.
Tusculum keeper Jorge Alvarez allowed just the one goal in the first half as he improved his season record to 8-3-1 in goal. Mars Hill's Chris Mitchell suffered the loss as he made five saves on the day.
Mars Hill out-shot the Pioneers by an 18-12 margin and held an 8-2 advantage on corner kicks.
Tusculum will be in action again next Saturday as the Pioneers travel to Catawba for an 8 p.m. contest in Salisbury, North Carolina.
