Kyle Dickson scored midway through the first overtime period to
give Tusculum College a 2-1 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University in
South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action Saturday night.
Dickson scored his first career goal from 30 yards at 4:16 of the
first extra period as the Pioneers (5-7-0, 2-5-0 SAC) won for the
first time in five overtime matches this season and picked up their
second consecutive victory.
Cody Kammerzell also scored for the Pioneers, who led 1-0 before
the Bears' Ben Jones tied the score in the 66th minute. The match
remained deadlock until Dickson put home the game-winner on the
Pioneers' third shot of the overtime period.
Tusculum outshot Lenoir-Rhyne 9-5 in the first half and was
rewarded with just 57 seconds left until the halftime whistle.
Kammerzell picked up the ball and went in on a breakaway against
Bears keeper Stefan Dill, who was out of position to stop
Kammerzell's third goal of the season and a 1-0 Pioneer lead.
The Bears (7-6-1, 2-4-1 SAC) had the better of play in the second
half outshooting the Pioneers 13-5 and netting the equalizer at
65:21 on the ninth goal of the season by Jones. Tusculum nearly
found the game-winner in regulation but a shot from Roberto
Pimentel hit the post with 6:29 left.
Lenoir-Rhyne finished the match with a 19-17 advantage in shots
over Tusculum, while both teams had six corner kicks. Victor Ohlin
finished with five saves in goal for the Pioneers in the victory
while Dill had three stops for the Bears.
Tusculum will be home for its next three matches, starting
Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against Lincoln Memorial at Pioneer
Field.
