The Tusculum College men's soccer team defeated Milligan College
2-0 in non-conference action Wednesday night at Pioneer Field.
Roberto Pimentel and Jonathan Spicher scored for the Pioneers
(3-4-0), who snapped a three-match losing streak by firing a
season-high 18 shots at the Buffaloes (2-8-0).
Tusculum took the first 10 shots of the match, with the eighth one
deposited into the goal by Pimentel at 30:13 off a rebound of a
blocked shot off the foot of Mason Fox. Milligan nearly tied the
score at the 41-minute mark on a direct kick from 19 yards, but
Pioneer keeper Ashley Elsey got a hand on a blast from Andre Ottoni
and deflected the shot off the crossbar.
The Pioneers protected their 1-0 lead through the second half, and
were rewarded with an insurance goal at 78:19 as Kyle Dickson's
corner kick bounced off the hands of Buffaloes keeper Dan Ball to a
waiting Spicher, who knocked home his fourth goal of the season for
a 2-0 Tusculum lead.
Tusculum finished the match with an 18-6 margin in shot attempts
and a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. The Pioneers also took six corner
kicks to two by the Buffaloes. Elsey made two saves for his second
shutout of the season for Tusculum, while Ball had five saves for
Milligan.
The Pioneers return to South Atlantic Conference action on Sunday
afternoon against Anderson, with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at
Pioneer Field following the 1 p.m. Women's game between the
