Fredrik Muren scored goals in each half to lead Tusculum College to a 2-0 victory at Limestone College in men's soccer action Thursday afternoon at Saints Field.

Muren scored in the 12th and 57th minutes for the Pioneers (1-0-0), who were tabbed as the favorites in the South Atlantic Conference preseason coaches poll. Andy Goellner made four saves in goal for Tusculum in the shutout.

The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead when Muren headed home a corner kick by Dario Greiser for his first career goal at 11:40. Tusculum carried that 1-0 advantage into halftime despite a 7-5 shot advantage by Limestone in the opening half.

Limestone nearly tied the game in the 51st minute when a shot by Thomas McCready caromed off the crossbar. Muren provided the Pioneers with breathing room in the 57th minute, converting a deflection in the box into his second goal of the game at 56:33 for a 2-0 Tusculum lead.

The Saints finished the game with a 15-11 advantage in total shots, but the Pioneers prevailed in shots on goal by a margin of 5-4. Tusculum took five corner kicks to two from Limestone, while the Saints were whistled for 15 fouls compared to 12 by the Pioneers.

Tom Godfrey made three saves in goal for the Saints, while McCready led the Limestone attack with four shots. Andre Bissmark paced the Pioneers with three shots, including two on goal.

Tusculum will play its 2012 home opener Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at Pioneer Park against 12th-ranked Barry University.
