Men's Soccer falls to No. 24 Montevallo, 5-0

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Austin McIntosh recorded a goal and an assist to lead the No. 24 University of Montevallo men's soccer team to a 5-0 victory at Tusculum College Wednesday night at the Niswonger Sports Complex / Pioneer Field.

The Falcons improve to 14-2-1 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 2-11-3 overall.

Montevallo tallied three goals in the first half, including a pair in the opening 14 minutes. Phil Jackson knocked in his fourth goal of the season in the 11th minute as he took a crossing pass by McIntosh and blasted the shot from 15 yards out to the back of the net.

Nathaniel Foster recorded his 10th scoring tally of 2010 when he fired a shot to the near post at the 13:13 mark. The goal was assisted by Milan Pualic.

Just before the intermission, James Steer converted a turnover at the top of penalty area and fired home his second goal of the year for a 3-0 UM lead with 32 seconds remaining in the period.

McIntosh added another goal in the 62nd minute, while Vance Curro found the back of the net for the second time this year as Pualic accounted for his second assist on the night.

The Falcons out-shot the Pioneers by a 14-5 margin in the match, including 8-2 in the first half. UM keepers Brendan Ledgeway and David Esser combined on the clean-sheet for the Falcons. Tusculum starting keeper finished with a save in his 57 minutes of action, while Keagan Graham posted three saves as he closed out the match for the Pioneers in goal.

Tusculum will close out the regular season this Saturday night when the Pioneers host Lenoir-Rhyne University for an 8 p.m. South Atlantic Conference match.
